Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve
Explore the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve, designated by UNESCO in 2004. Learn all about the native species in the 347, 000 hectares that stretch 200 kilometers along the eastern coast from Port Severn to the French River. This is the world's largest freshwater archipelago, also known as the 30, 000 Islands.
The geography and geology of this area create more than 1, 000 distinct habitat types in which a variety of rare species live. These species include plants, mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
Established in 1998, the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve Inc. is a non-profit community organization who strives to promote environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability.
